* One should maintain a healthy weight. Over-weight can result in a heart attack
* Exercise is important. A regular regimen of exercise keeps you fit and healthy. Exercise improves heart function, lowers blood pressure and blood cholesterol and provides more energy. Regular exercise improves blood circulation. Aerobics, bicycling, swimming etc. are good for health.
* One should eat fewer fats. Fatty foods can add calories, which in turn can cause heart diseases
* A well-balanced and nutritious diet is essential
* One should keep a check on one's blood pressure. It must remain under control
* Blood cholesterol should be kept under control
* One should avoid smoking
* Diabetes should be prevented or managed
* One should get proper treatment for heart diseases
* One should lead a stress free life. Cultivating a habit of taking things easy is good
* A sedentary lifestyle should be avoided. Physical activity is good for the heart
* Fast foods should be avoided. Eating "junk" food is not good as these food items are of no nutritious value
* One should relax a lot. Listen to music, develop hobbies and spend time with friends and family and enjoy every moment of it
